Designing a must-see train for an iconic route

An extraordinary railroad project deserves a train that does it justice. To do just that, and more, moodley developed an outstanding concept for a railroad project in Istanbul, a colorful metropolis with a great railroad history. The design embodies the combination of modern and classic Istanbul style and sets new standards in terms of comfort. A lot of wood and sustainable materials dominate the interior, but also the station furnishings, which were also redesigned by moodley in the process. The interior and its zoning are tailored to the needs of a commuter train that will also be heavily frequented by tourists. Different seating and lounge areas provide versatile comfort, bicycle transport is made easy and e-bikes can even be charged using special charging stations. The train, which has been designed in accordance with Universal Design standards, also ensures that people with reduced mobility can enjoy the Glacier Express-style high windows and the unique panorama of the Bosporus they offer, without any worries. In the future, the new train will run between Kazlıçeşme station and Istanbul's historic Sirkeci terminal.

The route, which follows the coastline, is almost certainly one of the most beautiful inner-city rail lines in Europe. With the opening of the Marmaray, the high-speed rail link between the European and Asian parts of Istanbul, this railroad jewel was decommissioned. However, its slumber was only temporary. Since 2021, the line is being revitalized as part of a large-scale development project. Along the now single-track feeder line, the historic stations are being brought up to date. Relieved of freight and long-distance traffic, the new development along the track will include walkways and bicycle lanes, which, together with new green spaces and, of course, the extraordinary panorama, should make the area an attraction for Istanbul residents and tourists alike. The new train will certainly make the journey itself an unforgettable experience.
